Barcelona Residential Interior Design

Apartment at Diputació

We were contacted by Richard, an English photographer based in Paris, who had just bought a home in Barcelona that needed a complete renovation. The flat, of about 80 m², was located in a building around 100 years old in the Eixample and retained nothing of its origins: a few very simple previous renovations had removed any chance of reusing old materials or elements with character. The brief was very clear; the client wanted a result that was aesthetically beautiful, calm and bright, with great comfort for the many occasions he came to work in Barcelona. The original position of the windows and drains led us to place the bathroom and the bedroom «fish tank» near the entrance, leaving the rest of the home —living room, dining room and study— with the natural light and the views over a typical Eixample courtyard. As for the finishes, we chose to keep the existing wooden beams and their iron reinforcements exposed, as a singular feature of the building; and to balance so much pattern on the ceiling, we selected calm, continuous materials elsewhere, punctuated by the intense green of the sofa, the oak of the wardrobe and the chocolate-brown ceramic of the kitchen.
