Duplex in Ausias March

A choreography of textures and classic architecture. This duplex of about 150 m² plus a 40 m² terrace is set in an old building from 1912. A large part of the budget was devoted to improving the structure: both floor slabs were reinforced, walls and ceilings were insulated, the aluminium enclosures were removed to recover the façade’s old aesthetic and aerothermal heating was installed. The layout was completely redone. On the ground floor, at the foot of the terrace, sit the living room and open kitchen; access via the staircase was improved despite the structural limitations and, beneath it, a guest cloakroom with a shower, the black bathroom, was created. On the upper floor, thanks to the removal of one of the aluminium enclosures that sealed two façade balcony doors, the two main bedrooms were placed with access to the block courtyard, right above the terrace; a third guest bedroom, a dressing room and a bathroom were also added. The materials and decoration, as is usual in the studio, tend to be noble, durable, timeless and contemporary: white predominates to bring light to this ground floor, with bolder colours —yellow and green— applied selectively in the kitchen, wardrobes and panelling. The client, a renowned designer and digital artist, trusted the studio fully and made decisive contributions. We believe we achieved our goal with this quiet, warm and welcoming duplex.
